I know, I’ve been very irregular with posting here. I’ve been distracted by a lot of things lately like endless saree shopping (without actually buying anything), Euros, Gilmore Girls on Netflix and Pokémon GO! So happy that you can make the game work in India (or anywhere) and that there are plenty of Pokéstops and gyms around my place so I don’t have to venture out too much!

We’re in the middle of monsoons which means 24×7 grey weather, rain and the constant urge to just be wrapped up in my blanket and hibernate. For my hair, it means it’s frizzy and just hard to maintain. It gets weighed down very easily and it’s harder to keep volume or hold any style for that matter.

hair care routine-1

This hair routine isn’t season specific though, I don’t really change things around too much. For the longest time I’ve had dry hair with an oily scalp. Things haven’t changed much. My hair is healthier now, I don’t get dry split ends but my scalp is still oily. My hair is also very fine which makes it clumpy at the roots and I usually have to wash it every 2-3 days.

I’m not loyal to any particular brands but I usually go for gentle volumizing shampoos without SLS. At the moment, it’s the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo. I usually have dry shampoo build up by the time I go for a wash; this cleans my scalp really well but doesn’t feel too dry or stripping. I’ve also used volumising shampoos from Sachajuan and Kerastase that I’ve liked in the past that perform similarly.

Since I have fine hair, many conditioners can be just too rich to use on a regular basis. I use a nourishing masks ever so often but for a regular conditioner I prefer something like the Ogx Coconut Water Conditioner that’s lightweight but still moisturises and detangles my hair. It makes my hair feel really soft but I don’t have to spend an hour getting conditioner out of my hair either. I’ve never been a huge coconut scent person but I love it now! This has already been repurchased!

As I mentioned, usually once every two weeks I use a deep conditioning hair mask. I’ve used ones from Moroccan Oil and Macadamia before and while I do like them, they are just way too heavy for my hair. Right now I’m using the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer and I love it! It’s a more creamy composition and my hair feels very hydrated and nourished but not weighed down. It’s not directly available here so I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase this, but I do like it very much. My hair looks a bit more glossy and thicker when I use this and I don’t have problems with extreme dryness or split ends anymore. This is supposed to help the elasticity of your hair and repair it to avoid breakage. I don’t know enough about the ingredients to add more to the topic though!

hair care routine-4

Once I’m out the shower, I use the Sachajuan Leave In Conditioner to detangle and smoothen out my hair even more with a few spritzes. Also, sometimes if I’m in a real hurry but need to wash my hair, I just skip conditioner and once I’m out I use many spritzes of this to compensate. I love that’s super fine and lightweight. If you have very dense or coarse hair you might feel like this isn’t enough but it works really well for me.

My hair is naturally wavy and styling wise, I just like to straighten it out a bit. I use the Toni&Guy Heat Protection Mist first and then blow dry my hair. I can’t really do it as well as they do it in the salon but I don’t use the very high heat setting so that’s also a factor. If I do use a straightening iron, I apply the protectant even more profusely!

hair care routine-2

Throughout the day my hair gets just that tinsey bit oilier and usually on the second day I need to use the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to bring back volume and just get rid of a bit of oiliness usually near the hairline. I would say this spray is more for volumizing and holding it rather than a dry shampoo. It certainly won’t work as well as Batiste Dry Shampoo in mattifying and giving your hair that clean look. On second or third day hair, I bring out the dry shampoo! I have dark hair and you can see the white bits when you spray it initially but by massaging it in, it disappears and my hair looks really clean! I’ve also used the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk and I really like it but Batiste is easier to get hold of for me.

That’s my current routine! I’ve never tried any kind of anti-humidity spray so please comment below if you know one that works well! I’m very keen to try one.

  1. This has definitely made me want to start a serious haircare routine haha! I don’t really ever do anything with my hair to help strengthen and nourish it but there are some really nice products here 🙂

    1. That might also mean that you have amazing hair and don’t need anything extra! xx

  2. i’m so happy you did this post, and i have an oily scalp as well so i’m going to try out these products! i’m using the bblunt dry shampoo at the moment which works quite nicely for me, but i’ve heard so much about batiste and ditto for the oribe dry texturising spray.. i’m on the lookout for a good smoothening anti-frizz serum/spray as well

    Life as Aditi

    1. An oily scalp is even more hard to maintain in the rain! I might try something from BBlunt too, their range seems to be very extensive.

  3. I’m pretty low maintenance with my hair care since I can’t be bothered with heat styling and I feel like I can’t really tell if products are working that well since I don’t have that much experience with trying different things. I do love Batiste dry shampoo though, it definitely leaves white residue in my hair too unless I massage it in, but of all the dry shampoos I’ve tried it’s the most absorbent. I do really like Co-Lab dry shampoo as well but I’m not sure if you can get that in India.

Also Pokemon Go is the best! So glad to hear you’ve been having fun with it too, I’ve been playing it non-stop!

    1. Nope, no Co-Lab here but I’ve pretty satisfied with Batiste! On most days I have either give more time to hair or makeup. You will always find me with less or no makeup on days when my hair is newly washed and shiny!

I’d say I’m more of an introvert Pokemon player, I just want to build my collection, not very interested in battling! Still haven’t found Pikachu though.

That coconut conditioner sounds good! I’m usually anything with coconut in it when it comes to hair care products.

    1. I’m hooked! I was even looking up that Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer!

  5. I’m currently putting together a new hair care routine as I’m about to redo my balayage, so it’s all about keeping my coloured hair soft & shiny. The Tony & Guy Heat Protection Mist sounds like something I should add to my routine as I’m quite bad when it comes to heat and protecting it! x

    1. I can’t even imagine taking care of coloured hair, I suppose you have to stick to what really works right?

  6. Good to see an update from you, it’s been a while. I have tried Batiste dry shampoo unfortunately I dislike it as it makes my hair feels like straws. I have found a dry shampoo that I enjoy, Amika dry shampoo, have you tried that? Also good to know that the OGX Coconut conditioner is light, I have seen it here but never tried it. Will pick it up next week.

    1. Thanks Shireen! Let me know if you like the conditioner. Not heard of the Amika dry shampoo but I’ll look it up!

  7. Have heard so much about the Oribe Dry Texturizing spray. Have been wanting to try out since a long time but have to wait till someone is travelling back from the US.
BTW i was going through your posts and instagram, loved your feed and especially the products you feature. Following your blog now 🙂

    1. Thanks so much! Definitely let me know if there are any specific kind of posts you’d like to read! 🙂
The hype is real with Oribe! It really helps with volume! xx

    1. Thanks! Hope you found something worth trying! xx

  9. Your hair seems to be similar to mine, but unlike you I wasn’t too impressed with the Sachajuan Leave-In Conditioner. It makes my hair feel good, but the ingredients didn’t convince me at all.

    1. For me it can’t really replace a mask but as a light conditioner, there just aren’t that many choices available. Most of the products really weigh down my hair.

  10. Love the sound of the Sachajuan leave in conditioner! I don’t own something like that, but love the brand. I also need a new bottle of Oribe, I love it for the smell alone!!
Hope you get a pretty, sunny day soon!

    1. I have a rather large wishlist of things I want to try from Oribe, I’m sticking to just this one product for now.

  11. These products all sound amazing! I’ve been using the It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In Treatment with Keratin and as much as I like it, I’ve really been wanting to try something new. The Sachajuan leave in conditioner sounds spectacular – and seeing as though I’ve been wanting to try the brand that may be the start to a dangerous relationship haha.

And I’m SO excited for the Gilmore Girls revival to happen, I binge watched all seasons of Gilmore Girls when they were released in the US last year. Hands down one of my all time favorite TV shows. And my boyfriend has been playing Pokemon Go for the last few weeks so by default I’ve been playing along with him haha. It’s great to get up and walk around and actually explore new areas!

    1. I actually picked up It’s a 10 last year and I just haven’t used it because I go through hair products very slowly. I know, I loved the new Gilmore Girls teaser, just them chattering away I can watch it for hours!

  12. I really love living proof products! This one sounds great! I really like using It’s a 10 leave in product. It keeps my hair looking healthy!

    1. I love their shampoo but it’s a tricky to get hold of it here. I want to try It’s a 10 as well.

  13. Nice routine you got. I don’t really do much to my hair… shampoo, conditioner, airdry, done…

    1. That’s so great! Mine gets frizzy and knotty depending on the weather, it’s a pain.

  14. My hair is exactly like yours and I still haven’t found my holy grail products. I want to try Oribe dry texturising spray however I am not really sure about spending so much on it, but if I find the mini size I’ll get it.

    Ela BellaWorld

    1. Yea, I’m constantly updating an trying new hair products. With shampoo especially, a lot of the times it works for a while and then I see no difference.

  15. i’ve heard really good things about oribe but the $$$ makes me hesitant :/ maybe i can give it a try some time

    1. I really suggest getting the travel size version in that case, that’s what I did as well.
