It seems when I like a product, I tend to buy it in fours. The list of such “must haves” is extensive but for today I’ll focus on the By Terry Ombre Blackstar “Color Fix” Cream Eyeshadow sticks. Ever since I got these, I’ve been raving about them and it’s now the gold standard I compare rest of my eyeshadows to.

By Terry has always been one of those brands I was aware of but never had the inclination to buy for lack of accessibility and the not so appealing price. Trust beauty bloggers to turn that around! I’m now a certified By Terry fan and I’ve been fixated with these cream eyeshadow sticks since last year. I came very close to buying a blush and their foundation but I’ve put it off for now.

Can we just focus on the oh so sleek packaging for a hot minute? It’s sturdy, heavy, great to travel with and just pretty! I appreciate that the packaging is so uniform and yet you can tell the colours apart. Prior to this the only cream eyeshadow of note I had used was the Clinique Chubby Stick for Eyes and an Urban Decay one. Each have their flaws and the Ombre Blackstars just manage to get everything right.

The pigmentation is very opaque considering the texture. It feels incredibly light and smooth when you apply it to the lid, there’s no tugging. The heaviest swipe feels like a very light layer. A year on, the stick I’ve had for the longest hasn’t dried out either. I don’t have very oily lids but it stays put and does not crease on me. After applying you get a tiny window to blend it out, which it does so seamlessly after which it does not fade. These do really last for hours, easily 8-10 hours. These work well as base and also play nice with other eyeshadows whether they’re matte or a wet creamy eyeshadow.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar Review Swatch-3

After pouring over every swatch available online, I picked up Bronze Moon and Misty Rock! Bronze Moon is just the perfect medium bronzy neutral. It’s great to just throw on the lid, blend out and not think about anything else. Like all the pearlescent shades, this one has a serious sheen that will last all day.

Misty Rock stirred bit of a revolution in my makeup habits. You may have heard murmurs of a pink eyeshadow obsession from me and this is what truly started it. Granted, it’s more of a muted mauve meets pink, but finally finding a wearable pink really made me appreciate the often overlooked pink eyeshadow variety. II prefer using a sheer layer along with a darker brown on the outer corner.

Ombre Mercure was picked up on a whim because I realised I didn’t own a silver eyeshadow! You never know when it will come in handy!  This one is bit of a shade shifter though, it almost looks like a very very pale gold at times which doesn’t look as stark as a cool toned silver. It’s a very unique shade I felt I needed. Looking back, I guess I really don’t. I’ve worn it few times when I remember to use it as a inner highlight and as you might have guessed, I don’t wear silver eyeshadow very often.

Lastly, I picked up Brown Perfection from FeelUnique with a birthday coupon. It’s more of a matte shade and the only one in that finish I own. It’s an espresso dark brown  which can be daunting to use as a single eyeshadow but I find that this sheers out to an acceptable tint. It’s also great to pair with any of the other Ombre Blackstars. I use this the most in conjunction with Bronze Moon and Misty Rock.

If you haven’t tried any of these before, I’d really recommend Bronze Moon as it would suit anyone. There are some more colourful shades in the range as well but I think I’m done with these for now. Hope you all having a great weekend! I’m travelling for next two weeks so my schedule is out of whack but I will try to post again soon!

    1. They are just the most perfect colours! xx

  2. I really need to get my hands on some of these!! They are stunning!

    1. I’d highly recommend them, Bronze Moon in particular if you like more neutral colours. xx

  3. These looks so good
    I don’t own these :-((

    1. FeelUnique can come to your rescue! :p
But seriously, these are good and even in humid conditions they last really well.

  4. you have four of the kat von d liquid lipsticks too dont you haha! these eyeshadows look so lovely, the packaging is beyond gorgeous. i’m not too sure on pink eyeshadows but if i did wear one i think it would be something like misty rock. bronze moon looks stunning, thats made it to my wishlist. i can see the pale gold in ombre mercure as well, that one would be nice for a night out

    1. Haha I do! I’m totally into pink eyeshadows now (with a dark brown to tone it down). I feel I look weird with a silver eyeshadow all across the lid so I use Ombre Mercure more on the inner corner or just at the center of the lid.

  5. Oooooh the swatches look so nice!

    1. Thanks Melissa! xx

  6. Bronze Moon looks so pretty, I’d naturally go for this shade first to try them out. I’m not a huge cream shadow fan though, I recently brought a Charlotte Tilbury one which I was pretty impressed with, but the whole having to work fast before it dries out gives me anxiety! Hahahaha!

    1. Yea, that would be a good one to start out with. I haven’t used the CT ones but when it comes to cream eyeshadows I prefer the stick more to the pot variety. I usually don’t go for very complex blending with these so I find the time just ok. 🙂

  7. Ugh this post is just such a temptation. I’ve already been wanting to try them because I hear such great things about them. Not sure if you have the Kiko ones, but if so how would you compare them to the By Terry ones? And I feel like all of the products I hear/read about from them are just so lovely and I feel like they’d be great ‘treat yourself’ type additions to my collection. But at the same time I’m staying a bit away from them as it may open up one of those black holes that are hard to get out of once entered haha. Gorgeous colors nonetheless!

    1. Hey Cindy! I know a lot of bloggers compare KIKO to By Terry ones and I have had both both and for what its worth, in my opinion they do not compare. When you swipe it at the back of the hand both might seem equally creamy and pigmented but as soon as you blend the two, the KIKO ones almost disappear into nothing. Besides, they definitely crease on me which the By Terry ones never ever!

    2. Divya’s comment is more helpful here since I’ve never tried Kiko before. I have used the Laura Mercier and Burberry stick eyeshadows, and while they are pretty good, they do lack in pigmentation while blending and overall wear time.
If you already have eyeshadows you’re happy with, certainly, these aren’t a must have. I suppose it’s all relative. 🙂

  8. Oooh these! I have a couple, Bronze Moon and Brown Perfection and between the two I feel my eyeshadow life is complete! Every wedding that I go to I just slather on Bronze Moon, blend the lighter shade from Cordura in my crease and thats it! I love the fact that the eyeshadow doesn’t turn taupe on me and remains true to color! I was momentarily tempted by Misty Rock but I can count on one hand the no. of times I’ll wear any kind of Pink eyeshadow!

I want to get their jet black one now! I saw it in a tutorial for smokey eyes and it looked SO good!

    1. Ooh that sounds great! My usual two-step eyeshadow involves Bronze Moon and something akin to Mac Mulch. I haven’t tried any of the duo eyeshadows from Nars but I’m thinking Kalahari. I really like a limited edition one they came out with this year but I discovered it too late!

  9. Ahhh Misty Rock! I absolutely love it. I would never normally spend that much on a cream eyeshadow stick, but it’s quite something 🙂

    1. I know, especially now that there are so many options but By Terry is truly something!

  10. These eyeshadows sticks look so luxurious as they should considering the price tag. I love the shades you picked up especially Misty Rock & Brown Perfection. I’ve only ever tried the KIKO dupes which I love but will definitely have to splurge on one of these in the future x

    Beauty with charm

    1. I wish we had Kiko here, I love have loved to try them out too. The price is really steep but it’s worth buying when FeelUnique or SpaceNK have a sale!

  11. omggg these colors thoughhhhhh. and i’m not gonna lie, their packaging is 10/10. i would buy just for packaging LOL!

    http://www.fionnac.com

    1. That can happen with By Terry! It also feels very weighted and luxurious.

  12. There have been a few bloggers whom have raved endlessly about these and these are HG status for them. I can’t bring myself to splurge on these, the prices are way too high for my liking.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    1. True and there are a lot of other alternatives by Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Kiko but I haven’t tried any of them.

  13. Samileen avatar

I love bronze moon! Honestly I got it for the packaging. But I found out Kiko eye shadow sticks are so so similar to these, and you can find almost the exact dupe for bronze moon and misty rock from Kiko.

    Sam || Beautydetour

    1. Oh that’s good to hear! I wish Kiko was available here but I would have always felt like trying out By Terry anyway. I’m glad I bought them!

  14. These eyeshadow sticks has been on my wishlist for so long, however I just can’t justify paying that much on a single eyeshadow 🙁 Like Sam, I got Kiko ones as people said it is the dupe of By Terry. Misty rock is gorgeous!

    Ela BellaWorld

    1. Oh that’s great then! I wish Kiko was available here.

  15. I love shadow sticks and these look so luxurious!

    1. They do but I’m also glad they live up to the price, otherwise I would have been sorely disappointed.

  16. These are all so pretty! I love the look of a dash of silver right on the center of lids.

    1. Oh I think it would look perfect with your halo eye look!

  17. Lately I actually have been getting back into cream eyeshadow sticks in a big way. I had a little collection of them but just found myself barely reaching for them for quite a while until recently when I remembered how convenient they are when you’re in a rush and need to get out the door on the way to work. I love that you can just draw it on, blend in out and it looks so good and stays on all day (I always use a primer though). I haven’t tried any of the By Terry Ombre Blackstars because as I said I wasn’t really using any cream eyeshadows but if I keep up using them like I am at the moment I could be tempted by Misty Rock or Bronze Moon.

    Jessica – littlehenrylee.net

    1. I go in and out with cream eyeshadows as well but this year I’ve been using them a lot more over palettes. Bronze Moon or Misty Rock would definitely be the ones to pick from. Since you use a primer anyway, these defintiely won’t crease!

  18. I’ve never been one for cream eyeshadows but I’d be lying if I didn’t say they aren’t gorgeous! Perhaps I should try incorporating them in my everyday makeup. It looks so easy to use, and pigmented too! Bronze Moon just looks perfect <3

    xx   B A S H   |   go   say     H E Y   B A S H

    1. I wasn’t using them for the longest time but they’re so convenient, you’ll be hooked! In turn, I don’t feel like buying every eyeshadow palette that comes out, so that’s a bonus!

  19. These shades are so incredible, I’ve been dying to try one of these for ages!!

    Makeup Monster

    1. I know FeelUnique has sales very often and they ship worldwide, that would be a great way to try them out! It’s what I did.
Also, I just cracked up at your name and icon! xx

  20. Oh, these are so pretty! I love cream eyeshadow sticks, but I have so far resisted the temptation to buy any of the by Terry ones.

Linda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking

    1. I know you’re incredibly busy, you’d love how quick and easily polished they look! 🙂
I didn’t buy this shade as it would be too light for me, but Frozen Quartz (I think) is another good one.

      1. I love area eyeshadows for exactly that reason.

  21. Oh my goodness, I think I have to have some of these. I am a tad obsessed with metallic tones, and Misty Rock and Bronze Moon would be my picks. Would love to see how these cream eyeshadows look on. /Madison
    FASHION TALES

    1. Thanks Madison! Last year I was all about matte eyeshadows, single colour ones but this year I love anything with a bit of shimmer. How things change!

  22. Lusting right now.. the colours are so pretty and your pictures are perfect! Thanks for the review.

    Stephanie | http://www.stephykeung.com

    1. Oh thanks Stephanie! Bronze Moon or Misty Rock are amazing colours if you want to tip your toes in the By Terry pool!

  23. That purple shade <3 I'm not sure where to get By Terry in vancouver but when I was in Toronto I was tempted to pick something up at Saks but resisted. Their stuff is SO pretty and chic.

    1. Oh I think SpaceNK or FeelUnique can deliver it there but I’m glad you had the option to try them out. I swatched them when I was in New York and didn’t buy them at the time as I was shopped out at Sephora. But few months later they were still on my mind and I decided to buy one. Totally worth it!

  24. Ahh I have been wanting to try these for ages, they come in such pretty shades. Misty Rock is gorgeous! xo

    http://rachelnicole.co.uk/

    1. I know, Misty Rock is perfect! It’s a lighter shade but since it’s muted, it looks more sophisticated.

  25. The By Terry Ombre Blackstars are my favourite cream eyeshadow by far! Not only is the stick packaging super convenient for both application and travelling, but the formula is just out of this world. They blend like a dream (though I do apply one eye at a time because it sets super quick!), last for hours while never creasing on me and just look super dreamy on the eyes. I only own Bronze Moon and I’m so in love with this shade, I’ve never though about picking up another one. I just know Bronze Moon is my go-to when I want to wear my most favourite makeup or I want something quick and easy that still looks fabulous without the effort. After reading this post, you’ve now got me thinking about Misty Rock! I never understood the hype over this shade in comparison to Bronze Moon, but as I’m slowly getting into pink eyeshadow (I love how girly and ’90s it is), I’ll have to swatch it when I’m in the city tomorrow, I think! I own a few other cream eyeshadows – the Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop Eye Stick, a couple of MAC Paint Pots and the Chanel Illusion d’Ombre, and though they’re great too, the Ombre Blackstars are definitely in a league of their own. I’ve heard good things about the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks too, so that’ll probably be the one I try next. The Rose Gold shade is so pretty!

I absolutely love these! I have Bronze Moon and Misty Rock and honestly Misty Rock is one of the nicest shadows I have, period. I just wish they’d bring out some new shades though because none of the other shades in the range really grab my attention.

    http://www.thesundaymode.com

    1. I feel like these shades have been around for so long, it would be nice to see some new ones. That said, I don’t want them to bring out a new line and discontinue these or something!

  27. These are all so pretty, especially Bronze Moon! Have you tried the Burberry shadow sticks? I’ve heard those are really good as well
